Update on New Project: Fiction
Posted in: Words
It’s been a while since my last post. I just want to update you that I am currently working on another book, this time it will be a fiction. I am now at 10,000 words so that’s about 1/8 or 1/7 of a novel.
I will tell you what the new book is about in future post. Right now, all I can say is that I find the writing process really challenging but super exciting.
One thing I’m struggling with is the plot. Just coming up with an exciting story plot and one that is consistent and not filled with plot holes (I hope) took about six months of going back and forth and back and forth. Initially I was going to do what Stephen King does: no notes, no drafts, just write. But I can’t. Especially with this being my first fiction. You know what they say: unlike reality fiction has to make sense.
But just toying with ideas, weighing in on alternate story lines and endings, creating a voice for each character and more importantly thinking about how the main character develops and overcome his weakness to achieve certain goals, is unbelievably fun.
Also an update on my book “This Home Was Never Mine.” Since launch, a whole new world of opportunities opened up. I got invited to speak about the issue of religious intolerance in many local and international events. I also did a Q&A session over Skype with some students in Hong Kong. And I got my first fan letter, telling me that the book is important and touching. One thing I really like though, is I can finally say I’m an author at the end of every article I wrote.
OK, back to my desk.
